Midweek Winners
Western Carolina
- Win vs Gardner-Webb — 8–4
Western Carolina kept a solid Gardner-Webb club (RPI 84) at arm’s length in an 8–4 win, extending its streak to four straight victories and five in its last six games. Trent Turner opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the second inning, and the Catamounts broke the game open in the fifth, capitalizing on a double steal, two wild pitches, and a two-run shot from Noah Quarless.

Five pitchers combined to hold Gardner-Webb to four runs, as pitching coach Dusty White continues to get strong results from the staff. Offensively, head coach Alan Beck’s lineup was locked in—every starter reached base, eight recorded a hit, and seven scored.
Samford
- Win at Jacksonville State — 7–6
Samford picked up a significant 7–6 win over a strong Jacksonville State team, a timely result with a trip to red-hot Western Carolina looming to open SoCon play. Freshman Eddie Marshall delivered the decisive moment, launching a two-run homer in the eighth inning in his only at-bat of the game.

The Bulldogs built an early lead behind home runs from Cade Carr and Jake Souders, going up 3–0 before Jacksonville State responded with a five-run fourth. Samford chipped away, with Souders and Jeffrey Ince driving in key runs to narrow the gap, setting the stage for Marshall’s late heroics.
Zak Spurrier shut the door, tossing the final 1.1 innings without allowing a hit and striking out four to secure the win.
Mercer
- Win at Florida A&M — 9–2
Mercer’s historic start under head coach Craig Gibson continued with a commanding 9–2 win over Florida A&M. Logan Shepherd set the tone immediately, sending the first pitch of the game over the left-field wall for a 1–0 lead.
The Bears quickly built separation, highlighted by a two-run double from Titan Kamaka—fresh off Baseball America National Team of the Week honors—who finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs and is now hitting .507 with a 1.414 OPS.

Chris Katz added an RBI double in the second, and Braydon Kersey followed with a two-run single to stretch the lead.
After Florida A&M scratched across two runs in the third, Mercer maintained control, with Devyn McEachron adding a solo homer in the fifth. From there, the Bears cruised to a comfortable win.
Wofford
- Win at Presbyterian — 9–2
Wofford jumped on Presbyterian early and never looked back, cruising to a 9–2 win after a fast start at the plate. The Terriers plated three runs in the first inning and extended the lead to 4–0 on a wild pitch, then added two more in the fifth via a balk and a sacrifice fly to make it a 6–0 game.
After pushing the margin to 7–0, Presbyterian broke through with a two-run homer in the eighth, but Wofford answered with two more runs in the ninth to put the game away. The Blue Hose went down in order in the final frame.
Hunter Herndon led the offensive charge with a game-high five RBIs, going 2-for-3 on the night.

Midweek Losses
UNC Greensboro
- Loss at No. 14 North Carolina — 8–2
UNCG had chances but couldn’t capitalize in an 8–2 loss to North Carolina, undone in large part by a pair of momentum-killing defensive plays from the Tar Heels’ outfield.
After falling behind 2–0 in the first, the Spartans threatened early, but Perry Hargett erased a scoring opportunity in the third with a sliding catch in foul territory, followed by a throw to second to double off Tanner Berry. An inning later, Rom Kellis made another decisive play, snagging a line drive in left and firing home to cut down what would have been the go-ahead run, ending the inning.
UNCG did break through in the fourth, when Luke Jenkins delivered a bases-loaded single to tie the game at 2–2. The game remained even until UNC regained the lead in the sixth, then pulled away with a five-run seventh to seal it.
The Citadel
- Loss at No. 7 Georgia — 8–5 (Tuesday)
A brutal collapse for The Citadel, which carried a 5–0 lead into the seventh inning before Georgia stormed back for a walk-off win, capped by a three-run homer in the ninth.
Georgia ignited the rally with back-to-back solo home runs in the seventh, then seized control in a chaotic eighth. The Citadel turned to its top reliever, Michael Gibson, but he was tagged for five hits and three earned runs in just two-thirds of an inning. The inning unraveled after a misplayed fly ball in left—ruled a double for Brennan Hudson—that should have been the first out. Instead, it put runners on second and third with no outs, completely swinging the momentum.
Georgia capitalized, tying the game in the eighth before completing the comeback with a decisive three-run shot in the ninth.
- Loss vs No. 19 Clemson — 9–3 (Wednesday)
Since The Citadel led Georgia 5–0 going into the bottom of the seventh, they were outscored 17–3 the rest of the midweek, as what looked like a statement win quickly unraveled across the final innings.
Clemson added to the skid by scoring its last eight runs of the contest with two outs, continuing the stretch of late-inning struggles.
It briefly felt like The Citadel had a “Oh my gosh, we’re going to win” moment against Georgia—then, over the next 12 innings, they effectively threw up down the front of their shirt as everything spiraled.

The Point After
Western Carolina and Samford picked up the most notable wins of the midweek against solid competition, with the Catamounts handling Gardner-Webb comfortably.
For Samford, though, everything just looks hard right now—even in a win, it’s been a grind.
Mercer and Wofford beat up on their respective 235 and 290 RPI opponents, while UNCG was hanging with North Carolina until they weren’t.
For the Bulldogs, the biggest bright spot was Jayden Williams, who continues to look like the real deal at the top of the lineup and is now up to a 10-game on-base streak.
